Frequently Asked Questions!

Can I get pierced while pregnant or breastfeeding? No! You cannot get pierced while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Why? If your piercings were to get infected, the infection would pass on to your baby in utero and through the breast milk. An infection like this could cause severe harm/death to your baby.

How can I tell if my piercing is infected? If your piercing is becoming infected you will notice your piercing becoming extremely swollen, tender, red, and warm to the touch. An infection will cause excessive fluid drainage and a fever to develop. If this happens treat with hydrogen peroxide and Neosporin. In worse cases antibiotics prescribed by a medical professional may be necessary. Taking your piercing out is not required in order to heal an infection.

How does an infection happen? An infection can be caused from poor aftercare, or a metal allergy.

Do I have a metal allergy? Nickel based jewelry can cause itching, redness, and blistering. If you notice these symptoms, take your jewelry out and try a higher grade of metal such as, titanium, gold or platinum.

Is my piercing migrating (rejecting)? You’ll know that your piercing is migrating (rejecting) or has migrated (rejected) when your piercing has moved positions and is no longer where it used to be. Piercings can migrate (reject) completely out of the skin eventually. Some piercings are prone to migrating (rejecting) such as, any tongue piercings (due to constant movement.) When this happens the best thing to do is take your piercing out and let it close up. If the scarring isn’t too severe then you may re pierce it once it is fully healed. Letting a piercing fully migrate out of your skin can cause excessive damage and scarring. Unfortunately we weren’t created with piercings in mind so our bodies don’t react well sometimes and will reject. (Everybody’s body reacts differently to piercings.)

Do I have a Piercing bump (Keloid?) You will notice a piercing bump on your piercing will start to form after trauma. When you notice a bump starting to form, treat your piercing like its fresh until it is gone. (Tea tree Oil and NoPull Discs will help the process!)

Do oral piercings cause poor oral health? Yes, oral piercings cause damage to your teeth. Mouths also contain a lot of bacteria so risk of infection is higher.

I am a bleeder (hemophiliac) can I still get pierced? Yes, make sure you eat a good lunch, drink plenty of water and let your piercer know so that they can properly prepare.

What Is the legal age to get pierced in NC? The legal age to be pierced in NC is 16+ years old with parental (guardian) consent. Ear lobe piercings can be pierced at any age with parental consent. Tongue piercings are permitted at 16+ years and older with parental consent and with a mandatory consultation before hand. Dermals are considered body modification and require you to be 18+ years of age.

Can I still get pierced if I have HIV? Yes, we treat each client like they have HIV. By using single use needles and following BBP Guidelines we eliminate every risk for possible cross contamination.

What does proper aftercare look like? Proper after care= Clean pillow cases, clean sheets, clean blankets, clean hands.. No excessive touching, sleeping on, or playing with the piercing. Keeping hair from being caught in your piercing will eliminate risk of trauma (potential bump.) Mandatory 2x a day cleaning schedule with a proper saline solution. The goal is to keep the piercing free of discharge.

How should I prepare to get pierced? Drink plenty of water and eat a good meal an hour before your appointment. Have a good nights rest, don’t drink alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment, and don’t participate in drugs prior to your appointment.

How do I know when my piercing is healed and it’s time to switch to a smaller piece of jewlery? You will notice that your piercing will no longer be sore, swollen or excreting any crusties. This means your piercing is healed. It is time to switch to jewelry with a shorter length.

What will happen if I switch the jewelry out too soon? If you switch your jewelry out of a fresh piercing too soon you can cause a disturbance in the healthy environment that your piercing has created. This will delay healing time.

What will happen if I leave jewelry in that is too long? Piercers will use longer jewelry with fresh piercings because there needs to be adequate room for swelling. If you leave in jewelry that’s too long in length it will eventually alter the angle of the hole.

How often should I touch my piercing? The less the better!! And always with clean hands!

What is the difference between regular table salt and sea salt? Regular table salt goes through many chemical processes in order to perfect the product. These chemicals are bad for fresh piercings. Sea salt is all natural, just like the natural salt in our bodies!

Will it hurt? Yes, but everyone has there own pain tolerance!

How many piercings can you get at a time? As many as you’d like. You know your own limit.
